CAN’T STOP WON’T STOP!—It’s time to DREAM again!

JasmineMarch 28, 2020

Today’s post is unlike any I’ve ever done! I’ve talked about being a big dreamer, how I have huge goals and aspirations and I believe I’ve briefly mentioned a vision board, or maybe not. Well, today’s post is all about vision boarding!! I will walk you through the steps I take in creating my vision board.

The inspiration behind this post is 1.) I’ve yet to create a vision board for this year—what?! And 2.) Given that we’re all in quarantine, what better time to start? Better late than never, right? I basically sat around avoiding the things I said I wish I had more time to do—like writing, reading, cleaning and dreaming. I’d also found myself discouraged and unmotivated. I’d heard someone say before that often times that’s due to a lack of vision! So after I came to my senses I was able to accomplish all of what I’ve said I wanted to do and more!! I’ll talk more about that later, in the meantime, let’s get this vision started!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  1. A board of course; a cork board, poster board, whatever works best for you!
  2. A journal and pen
  3. Magazines, Pinterest and/or google
  4. Scissors
  5. Tape, glue stick (not pictured) and/or pushpins

STEP ONE

First things first; what is your vision? What do you want to do? When 2020 has come to an end, what would you like to say you accomplished? The first step is to WRITE THE VISION. This can be a list of goals and dreams, you can brainstorm and think about what you’d like to change in your life or any number of things. Below is a list of questions you can ask yourself to get your thought process going.

STEP TWO

Next, after you’ve written out your goals find words and pictures that match what you’ve written. For example, something I’d love to do is travel more so I gathered pictures of the places I want to visit and I cut out the word travel from a magazine I have! I’d also like to get in shape so I cut out pictures of health and women at my ideal ab place, etc. This step is fun as it allows you to search away for what YOU desire to see in your life! Magazines, Pinterest and Google are just a few of many resources to find the right images for you.

STEP THREE

Third, review your images. Go through them and make sure they’re what you want or if you have double images to represent one thing, maybe down size it or decide on which one would work best. Or, if you want to keep both—go for it!! It’s YOUR vision, make it look how you want it! For me this step has helped me to refine things and also compared to my list, it helps me to see if I’ve gathered images I need for my board to represent my whole vision for the year!

STEP FOUR

Fourth, this step can be combined with the last step or completely removed but I’m visual so I often play around with the images I’ve collected and make a mock-up placement of them before actually adding them to my board. This helps prevent me having to remove and replace, etc. Basically, it’s my rough draft before the final work of art lol!

STEP FIVE

Last, place away!! Go ahead and add your images, words and things to your board!! I have a few vision boards but my main board which focuses on the year is a cork board while the others are more lifestyle oriented and they’re paper boards. For the paper boards I’ve designed them with cool backgrounds using different types of construction paper. This time around I’ve decided to do the same for my cork board and it helps to make it even more appealing to look at! It gives it a special appearance which makes it feel a little more special. It least it does for me!

Check out my vision board from last year. Most of it is still relevant so I’ve decided to keep it up!

And that’s all. That is how you create a vision board. Let’s talk, how are you spending your downtime? Have you ever made a vision board or is that something you’d like to do? Maybe you already made your board for the year, any tips or suggestions you’d like to share? Comment below, I’d love to hear from you! 🙂

Be Encouraged

Where there is no vision, the people are unrestrained, But happy is he who keeps the law. (Proverbs 29:18)
