All About You
In a world that tries to tell us who we are and what we are, it can be easy to get caught up in the craze of what they’re saying. Ask me how I know. I’ve found it to be important that I take intentional time to be reminded of who I really am. Because in the midst of identities being “given” based off of our history, our upbringing, what we own, who we know, etc., it’s far past time that I—that we—shut out all the voices and opinions that don’t matter and tune into hear the One that does.
I don’t know about you but I’m over the world’s identity crisis and ready to live out who God made me to be. This post is all about you and it’s all about me, it’s WHO God says we are, how He sees us and how we should see ourselves. I compiled a brief list of truths about you (about me too, of course, lol). Sometimes we need reminders so, in today’s post you will find a few lies I’ve struggled with and the truths I’ve found in the Word to combat them.
What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31)
I’ve probably said this many times before but rejection was an issue for me and to be honest, I’ve still had moments where I had to remind myself of the truth. Rejection will happen, no one’s immune to it but it doesn’t have to get the best of us nor should it, which leads me to our first truth about you is—You are Accepted. The truth is that you were accepted before you could ever be rejected. And like Romans 8:31 says, if God is FOR us, who can be against us?!
I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well. (Psalm 139:14)
Something else I struggled with was my view of me. Am I pretty enough, big enough and even at times, small enough? What I saw in the media and all around me were certain people who looked a certain way getting all of the attention. Let’s be real, I wanted attention too—I’m human. But, there’s another truth that takes care of how I look and how I see myself. The next truth about you is—You are fearfully and wonderfully made. We’ve heard it said that God doesn’t make mistakes, and He doesn’t! He never has and He definitely did not start with you!
For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:35-39)
You may have noticed a theme in my last two posts—or most of them for that matter. The gist of them is: we all make mistakes. The thing about God is, our humanness doesn’t catch Him off guard. I’ve done things that have caused so much shame and even left me believing that I was unworthy of God’s love. But the truth is, God’s love is unconditional and it is not based on me, it is placed on mebecause HE WANTS TO LOVE ME! The same is true for YOU! Another truth about you is—You are loved unconditionally. Romans 8:35-39 has stuck with me. To sum it up; NOTHING can separate us from the love of God!
And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. (Galatians 6:9)
I’ve had moments where I’ve wanted to quit. Moments where I didn’t feel like I could go any further. It’s like, I’m doing all the right things but why does it still feel like life sucks? To be honest, life can be tough but it was never meant to defeat us. Another truth about you is—You are strong. Your strength is proven every time you choose to keep going. So, keep going! Don’t give up, don’t throw in the towel. As Galatians 6:9 says, we will reap if we do not lose heart. Just keep swimming!
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Deuteronomy 31:6)
For a while I craved community. I felt like I was ok when I was around people are when I was always being invited to hangout. The thing about that is, what about when everyone’s busy or when the phone’s not ringing? Am I still “satisfied” or would I rather continue to live from a place of false security? We were created for community, yes. But we were also created for relationship with God. We’ve also got a promise from Him, He will never leave us nor forsake us. When the phone stops ringing, we’re not alone, when the invites seem to stop, we’re not alone and even when we are invited out—we’re not alone. God said that He would NEVER leave us and He won’t. So, another truth about you is—You are never alone.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9)
Those who have been forgiven of much, loves much. (Luke 7:47) We are called to live a life of love. For me, I lived in shame for so long I found it hard to receive love and forgiveness from God. The truth is, Jesus took my shame. Because of Jesus, I don’t have to carry the weight of shame anymore and neither do you. Shame can hinder us from walking in God’s best for us. Shame people shame people but the person who knows they are forgiven not only forgives but loves! The last but certainly not least truth about you (in this post at least) is—You are forgiven. Because you are forgiven you are free to forgive and free to love. You are free to live and enjoy life in abundance like Jesus said in John 10:10.
There are definitely more truths about you but we could be here forever if I wrote them all out, lol! I encourage you to find more truths and confess them over yourself. Comment below any truths you declare over yourself that may not have been mentioned her and as always, feel free to share this post with your loved ones. Have a beautiful day!
