Imagine That

JasmineJune 4, 2018

Have you ever taken time to sit and imagine what you want your life to be like? Where would you like to be 1 year from now, 5 years from now? Where would you live? Would you be married, have kids? Whatever you desire, have you imagined yourself with that thing or person, place or position?

I’m a visionary to the core!! I have dream journals where I write out what I desire and then another where I write from the perspective of me acquiring that desire.  I believe it’s important for us to have a vision for our future so that we’re not revisiting our past. There’s nothing new there for us to see, things happened and we can learn from those moments and move on. Basically, when you take time to look ahead, you have less time to look back

Let’s have a real moment. It’s been awhile since I’ve actually sat down and imagined my future. It used to be an everyday practice for me but with life getting a little busier for me, I put that practice to the back burner; unrightfully so. Because of this, I’ve noticed me thinking about some things that have happened in my past—both good and not so good. Let me say that there is nothing wrong with remembering the things of our past but I don’t think we should be stuck there, how could we enjoy today or look forward to tomorrow?

So, in finding myself revisiting my past I found the temptation to wallow there. I mention all of this to make a point that I’ve at least found true for me—I can’t move on from my past until I allow myself to see my future. I’m not talking about being a psychic but I am saying that there are desires that we’ve been given by God that have a lot to do with the lives we will live—today, tomorrow and years from now!

Given this information, I envision what I want my future to hold based on the desires I’ve been given by God, dreams I’ve had as a child and dreams that have come later in life. I’ve found that taking the time to imagine my future causes me to look ahead and move there instead of looking back and going back there. Our lives are headed in the direction of our focus. If I’m focusing on my past, then I’ll go there. But the win is in looking ahead to what’s to come and going there.

On the journey of life, we will be presented with things that will cause us to want to turn around or quit. But the truth is, you win when you keep going. For me I’ve found freedom from my past in choosing to view what’s ahead. I don’t know for sure what’s to come but I know the One who does and He’s already said it will be good! With that knowledge, why not take it a step further and imagine what God can and will do in your life. There’s no limit to what God can do. Write the vision and see Him bring it to past!

Be Encouraged:

Now to Him Who, by (in consequence of) the [action of His] power that is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly, far over and above all that we [dare] ask or think [infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams] (Ephesians 3:20)

And the Lord answered me and said, Write the vision and engrave it so plainly upon tablets that everyone who passes may [be able to] read [it easily and quickly] as he hastens by. For the vision is yet for an appointed time and it hastens to the end [fulfillment]; it will not deceive or disappoint. Though it tarry, wait [earnestly] for it, because it will surely come; it will not be behindhand on its appointed day. (Habakkuk 2:2-3)
